We aren't sure what a Red Squirrel Field Technician does exactly, but if that's the kind of positions for which you recruit, at least in Canada, then WorkCabin is worth a look.

Founded by a newspaper editor who runs a small Canadian daily along the shore of Lake Erie, WorkCabin promotes itself as "Canada's green Green Jobs Site." And that's no idle boast. The company prides itself on being heaquartered on 30 acres of forest that it manages in accordance with a conservation plan approved by the provincial government.

So serious is founder Gregg McLachlan about the environment that his about us page declares: "Because of our investment in green renewable energy, in one year alone WorkCabin.ca's website, servers and office will offset their emissions footprint by an estimated 4.79 tonnes of CO2."

The site (green in color and contemporary in look) is rich in environmental content, carrying conservation news from across the country and columns and blogs devoted to all things earth friendly.

Besides the job listings (we'll get to those in a moment), there's also a sort of jobs wanted section where jobseekers offer an elevator pitch and contact information. These are freely searchable.

Job listings, sparse though they may be, are all solidly green. Besides the posting for red squirrel field techs there were teaching positions, program management jobs and listings for biologists, fundraisers, hydrologists and even a furniture maker.

The listings come from government, academe, the Disney Company, Greenpeace and the Nature Trust.

Posting rates are so cheap as to be almost free: $40 Canadian for a 60 day listing. Volunteer jobs and internships are, in fact, free to list.

Traffic is limited. However, site owner Gregg MacLachlan, a newspaper editor and award winning journalist, wrote us to say: "Our traffic is overwhelmingly Canadian, and very strong for a first year startup."
