Vitruva joins the growing ranks of companies committed to using technology to improve the way candidates and jobs come together.

The company was founded in 2006, about a year after the launch of Jobfox (nee Mkt10), the forerunner of the current crop of job matching sites. Vitruva launched at the end of 2007 with the promise of "jobs without searching" and the mission "to create a world where people are aware of all job opportunities that precisely fit their experience and preferences... "

It's an ambitious, if elusive goal, but Vitruva certainly makes an admirable effort. It's  questionnaire walks jobseekers through the process of building a profile from their responses to a series of prompts. Each question has a pulldown, which we found to be a limitation as our particular occupation - writer - is nowhere on the list.

Of course, as the site matures, more choices will be offered. But for now, a candidate seeing a job outside the seven listed areas, is out of luck. Which, of course, means an employer seeking those kinds of people is also out of luck.

There is a shortcut. Vitruva can use a Linked In profile to make matches. But candidates still have some questions to answer. And at the end of the questions you can attach a resume.

Employers also have a series of questions to answer, but Vitruva parses the job posting and can match that way. Employers can post jobs for free. They pay anywhere from $25 to several hundred to see the top matching candidates with price depending on candidate supply. Candidates, however, have to agree to uncloak their identities.

The company name derives from Leonardo da Vinci's famous drawing of a nude man in a circle and square. Vitruvian Man, as the drawing is called, is da Vinci's study of human proportion and man's relation to the universe. The company says it chose the drawing as a symbol of its mission.
