Velocity is an ironic twist on the whole outsourcing concept: the company develops candidate lists and sources prospects from an office in Bangkok, Thailand, where co-founder David Simpson is based.

In case you didn't get it, let's try it this way: Velocity outsources the searching, instead of the work. OK, so maybe it's not so ironic, but it is a lot less expensive for its Fortune 500 clients (and the other clients who will never make a Fortune list) than doing it themselves. And the overnight turnaround time is about as fast as it gets.

While the U.S. is asleep, the Bangkok office is at work. Typically, companies like Velocity fill up candidate pipelines for recurring position hiring. But a testimonial on the company website from Fair Isaac said Velocity sourced for recruiting events including positions paying over $80k and the quoted comment was that the arrangement provided a good ROI.

The company told us it "focuses PRIMARILY on professional positions in all functional areas (Sales, Engineering, Finance, Human Resources, IT, etc), and all levels ranging from fresh graduate through VP level."

Part of the service, besides building pools, is qualifying candidates. That's done out of the Naperville office, just outside of Chicago. This second step is the heavy-lifting part sparing corporate recruiters from endless rounds of phone calls to the disinterested, disconnected, or dead.

The website, alas, doesn't provide much detail on how the work exactly gets done or what those candidate pools might actually contain. Good questions to ask the company directly.
