Vault, Inc

Vault is a career information firm. It’s the first place many turn when looking for the inside scoop on what it's like to work for a specific company. More than that, Vault has loads of advice and in-depth information for job seekers in more than 30 professional industries such as investment banking, law, government and media.

The "sweet spot" for the company are professionals between ages 18 and 34 looking to make the best career choices and career development moves. Of interest to recruiters is the Vault job board as well as the newsletter for HR professionals and salary surveys.

In September 2007, Veronis Suhler Stevenson acquired a majority stake in the company. VSS is a leading private equity investor in the media, communications, information and education industries. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.

VSS was joined by veteran media executive Erik Sorenson, Ledgemont Capital, and the company’s senior management team in making the investment. Sorenson, the former president of MSNBC, became the CEO of the company at the close of the deal.

In late 2009, after a troubling year that included a corporate downsizing, Sorenson was named Vault chairman and Claude Sheer became CEO.

Vault.com was founded in 1996 by Samer Hamadeh, his Stanford University classmate Mark Oldman, and brother Hussam Hamadeh. Since that time, the company has grown rapidly, emerging as the leading media company for career information. Fortune calls Vault.com “the best place on the Web to prepare for a job search,” while The New York Times deems it a “killer app.”
