The humble beginings of the firm trace to 1928 when Return Load Service, Inc was formed in Cleveland, OH to help independent moving companies find paying cargo for return trips. This eventually became United Van Lines and through growth and expansion, UniGroup, Inc.
In 1995 the company had its first billion dollar year. In 1996 the company started UniGroup Worldwide (www.unigroupworldwide.com) to manage the international issues of the core products. In 2001, UniGroup Worldwide entered into a strategic operating alliance with Netherlands-based UTS to form UniGroup Worldwide UTS. The alliance completes a network of over 1,000 U.S. agents and nearly 300 non-U.S. shareholders outside of the U.S. servicing all of the world's major centers of commerce.
The company's other divisions include Vanliner Group, Inc. (providing specialized insurance coverage); and Total Transportation Services, Inc. (which sells and leases transportation equipment and movers' supplies).
