"Are all working people happy at work?" With this question, SuccessFactors founder Lars Dalgaar sets forth his vision of a working world where employees and companies are mutually successful, and explains how SuccessFactors will help make that possible through an on-demand, quick-start modular set of applications, and performance dashboards and reports. In layman's terms, that means the company sells Web-based tools for corporate tasks like performance reviews, succession planning, and compensation.

It has a product configuration and price for companies ranging from the very small to companies with tens of thousands of workers in offices around the world. It also has a a much more limited Manager's Edition for companies that don't need or want a company-wide suite of programs. A real global firm, SuccessFactors offers its workforce tools in a variety of languages.

Research firm Bersin & Associates announced in January 2008 that SuccessFactors was one of the top three vendors in the field. A principal analyst for Bersin, Leighanne Levansaler wrote, "SuccessFactors continues to be a leader in performance and talent management suite offerings," an opinion that is borne out by the company's annual growth rate of over 100%.

SuccessFactors was built using $45 million in venture captial funds (Canaan Partners, Cardinal Venture Capital, Emergence Capital, others) and went public in 2007. Customers include Kimberly-Clark Corporation, MasterCard Worldwide, Textron, Sutter Healthcare, Direct Energy, Volkswagen of North America, Lancaster General Hospital, and McDermott International, Inc. The firm has more than two dozen offices worldwide.
