SnagAJob is an online recruitment service targeting hourly workers. The Internet traffic counter ComScore says SnagAJob is the most heavily trafficked of all the part-time and hourly job sites in the world and overall, it ranks among the 10 career sites on the Web.
It’s seen rapid growth since its inception in 1999, and now gets more than 1.8 million unique visitors monthly, and boasts more than eight million registered users. It claims to receive 130 million job searches per year and has 100,000 active job postings at any one time.
Those are the kinds of numbers that have helped it attract $14 million in two rounds of funding from VC firms such as Adams Street Partners, Baird Venture Partners and C&B Capital. The most recent round raised $5 million in February 2008.
SnagAJob offers the basics – plain and simple. This includes job postings, employer profiles and advertising (careers and non-careers related) that is sold onto the SnagAJob site. Employers pay a fee for each physical location listed on the site, and there are volume discounts. Rather than resumes, users create profiles which are matched to jobs. Beginning in mid-2008, it will offer searches of the profile database to employers.
SnagAJob offers a number of distribution channels from its site. For example, it currently works with 37 ClearChannel Web powering their hourly job boards. Its affiliate program drives much of its traffic. And it raises awareness among younger workers, who account for a sizeable portion of its jobseekers, by running ommercials on Comedy Central, ESPN2, BET, TBS and USA. The commercials are also posted on YouTube, where SnagAJob maintains a presence.
SnagAJob works with many of the Fortune 500. Its clients include Disney, 7-Eleven, Bed, Bath & Beyond, BankOne and McDonalds.
And all of this came about when founder and CEO Shawn Boyer tried to help out a friend whose child was looking for an internship. Lawyer Boyer, who grew up working in his parent’s jewelry store, found there were few online places for part-timers to look for work. He ditched his job with a Wall Street law firm and started SnagAJob.
