Six Figures is a new Australian job board that's a knockoff of The Ladders, ExecuNet and 6FigureJobs, among others. In differs only in its business model, which is to charge the employer, not the jobseeker.
Backed by private investors and founded by a professional recruiter and an IT business owner, Six Figures launched in March 2008 and is off to a fast start. With more than 100 jobs online the day we looked and clients from Fortune's global lists, it's clear Australia was ready for an exclusive job board.
Jobseekers and employers both must register prior to using the services. Registered jobseekers can search all the jobs for free, plus they can set up a profile that includes the usual CV as well as more personal information such as the type of company and culture they'd prefer.
Employers are offered a variety of services, in addition to a single job posting, which now costs $295 (AUD) for a single posting (about $275 US as of 8/4/2008). Job postings include a business profiels. There are also multimedia packages and other branding and advertising services.
This ambitious young company boldly says it intends to go international in the near future
After the initial version of this profile was posted we received a note from Kelly Magowan, one of the founders, who took issue with some of the things we said. Here's the key part of what she wrote:
"The terminology of ‘knockoff' is rather inappropriate, given we are the evolution of the traditional job site; whereby we offer genuine job opportunities to our members, we operate on a business model of transparency and quality (not quantity), we are a Web 2.0 site where members can participate (such as rate job ads). Also, members can do more than upload a resume - they can create their own personal branding page, which includes attachments, links and the ability to communicate effectively what they are looking for and sell themselves beyond the traditional resume. These are just a few of the many key points of difference from those other sites you mentioned. Traditional job sites work on a volume and matching business model which does not accurately reflect the behavior and profile of high salary earners, whose expertise and experience requires more than throwing up a job ad and using matching technology."

Single job postings cost $295 (AUD) ($275 US). Initial posting take a few minutes and must be done manually, as the job board doesn't interface with ATS systems yet. There is a quick start process that collects a minimum amount of information, but in all cases the posting employer is required to demonstrate that the comp package is at least $100k (AUD).
