Mashable called RiseSmart "Job Hunting for Lazy, Laid-off Execs," a description the company evidently endorses since it links to the story from its About Us section.
We wouldn't have described it that way, although at first look it might seem apt. The Job Concierge is more of a convenience service that searches the web for jobs matching the career path of its clients, all of whom are into the 6-figure salary neighborhood. This frees up the client from the busy work to do the networking that is how people in this price range get work.
RiseSmart uses automated systems to scour the web, but the list of jobs is filtered by humans.
Nothing remarkable here; JobSerf has been doing this since 2006. RiseSmart is cheaper by far, but we suspect you get what you pay for. RiseSmart's pitch says a resume is optional.
For recruiters and employers, RiseSmart offers Transition Concierge, a discount outplacement service that focuses on getting the ex-employee into a new job as fast as possible.
Traditional outplacement services put transitioning workers through a job search training program that includes seminars, group sessions and face-to-face counseling.
RiseSmart, instead, delivers job leads using Job Concierge, supplementing the leads with such traditional outplacement services as resume review, interview coaching and some newer ones as social network resources.
Because the services are delivered via phone and Internet, RiseSmart has significanly lower overhead and thus costs substantially less that traditional outplacement.
