PsyMax Solutions is an assessment provider that focuses on five industry sectors with some of the biggest turnover rates to be found - Retail,
Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Healthcare and Financial Services. Nothing like picking a tough job.
Much of the emphasis is on selection. After all with a turnover rate above 50 percent in just the retail business, anything that improves retention and lowers that rate offers bottom line savings.But, as the company website notes, PsyMax offers additional tools to improve retention and assist in identifying promotion candidates and helping companies groom them for more responsible positions.
The company's Work Style Assessment inventory forms the core of each assessment. The version for employee selection includes personality and behavioral components that have been developed and validated over the years. Additional selection tools help identify the work style behaviors most critical for successful performance in a particular job.
Borders Group with some 32,000 employees has used WSA to assist in the selection of its store and district managers. It also participated in a study by Cornell University researchers who found, according to PsyMax, "a significant relationship between District Managers' work styles, as measured by the WSA inventory, and annual district profitability."
Incidentally, if the name has a vaguely familiar ring to it that's because PsyMax is owned by Max-Ventures which is led by Michael Feuer, co-founder and former CEO of OfficeMax.
