Born from an idea Joe Giordano had while musing about the Internet bubble, PayScale allows employees, managers, and executives to input their salaries and see how they compare to their peers. The salary data comes from a wide variety of sources, but relies heavily on users to enter detailed profiles of their jobs, their companies and, of course, report their pay, bonus, commissions, tips and benefits. In return, they get an equally detailed report back of just where they stand.
It's a lot like Salary.com with a major exception: PayScale data is derived heavily from the users. The larger Salary.com surveys corporate human resource departments.
PayScale also provides job seekers and HR professionals access to real-time pay data that matches the companies, positions, and job profiles of employees and employers across the globe.
The company supplies data to CareerBuilder, Jobster, and Simply Hired. In July 2007, the company raised $1.5 million from SAP Ventures, which brought its total C-round funding to $10.3 million. Previous investors include Allen & Co., Corporate Executive Board, Trinity Ventures, Madrona Venture Group, Fluke Venture Partners, and Buerk Dale Victor.News & Updates
