Lawson Software, Inc.

From an office in founder Richard Lawson's Minneapolis home to multinational software giant, Lawson has built a business by helping other businesses work smarter. The company specializes in providing technology that enables businesses to manage, monitor and plan their workflow more effectively. After three decades of working with companies in the manufacturing, distribution, maintenance, and service industries, Lawson knows the pain points, where systems and production can fall short and how to deliver technology solutions to address the problems.

Its lineup of ERP (enterprise resource planning) products includes a human capital management suite for the services industry that is being enhanced to serve the broader market. In 2007 Lawson introduced a new set of HR applications, including tools for workforce acquisition and development. Now the Strategic Human Capital Management suite being developed will be a complete solution covering the entire employee lifecycle, from sourcing and acquisition to performance management, success planning and, in keeping with Lawson's ERP focus, enabling HR to develop workforce strategies that fit a company's needs and production.

At the October 2007 conference on HR Technology in Chicago, three leading vendors were pitched head-to-head in an HCM competition to draw attention to the leading ERP vendor’s products in core HR and strategic-HCM areas. At least according to one reviewer (Christa Degnan Manning), "Lawson won not by trying to highlight the sophistication of its underlying technology, but by showing how it will integrate into the rest of the business. It focused its manager self-service portion of the demonstration entirely through Microsoft Outlook integration. It also gave the best illustration we have seen to date of corporate social networking and web services used in HCM."

The February 2008 acquisition of VasTech, a workforce management software and services specialist, added advanced workforce management and scheduling capabilities to the Lawson HCM suite.

Since merging in 2006 with Intentia, Lawson's footprint has extended to some 4,000 customers in 40 countries. Today, its software and services have made it a rival to other enterprise application provides such as Oracle and SAP.
