Officially, Jobvite is a recruiting platform that leverages the digital networking phenomenon to attract job candidates and enable the collaboration of hiring teams to identify and hire the best people.

Unofficially, and sort of irreverantly, Jobvite is Jobster's missing link. Or maybe we should describe it as Jobster on vitamins. (The Jobvite name makes us think Vitametavegamin.)

What makes us say this is that Jobvite takes Jobster's referral network concept, but adds a hiring team collaboration component and an ATS, giving the SaaS platform three distinct parts that work together very nicely.

The presentation is clean and clear. The CRM works from the dashboard and integrates with Outlook to make event calendaring easy. Team members involved in the hiring process get as much access as the recruiter or hiring manager approve, including access to the candidate's vitals and the interview schedule.

Founder Jesper Schultz and Jobvite's Chief Architect Hans Larson seem to have thought of everything.

Schultz, a Danish engineer with years of experience hiring and managing technical teams in the super competitive San Francisco Bay Area, founded Jobvite in December 2003. (Its first name was ForumJobs.) The product,  in its present incarnation and with the name Jobvite, was launched three years later.

The product seems perfectly suited to its intended SMB market; Tivo and investment software house Advent are among its customers. One customer, nGenera's recruiting manager Katie Carty Tierney, was so excited with the product she blogged about it.

In December 2007 CMEA Ventures gave the company $7.2M in Series A financing. In July 2008, Dan Finnigan, former head of Yahoo! HotJobs, was appointed CEO and Schultz took the position of Chief Product Officer.
