This is a company that's moving faster than a speeding bullet. When first we reviewed Jobs2Web, it was HotGigs, Inc., a freelancer/contractor job site with a business model similar to TheLadders.
Now in the spring of 2008, it is still that, but the company has officially become Jobs2Web, Inc. and is emphasizing its services optimizing corporate career sites and job postings and monitoring results.
In a nutshell, Jobs2Web works with companies to increase the visibility of their online recruitment presence and improve the response rate to their listings.
It should be obvious in this brave new world where recruiters compete for top talent why improving your online visibility is critical. But just in case, type "accountant, job" and a city name into Google or Yahoo. We picked Omaha and got 3 million listings on Yahoo.
Even if your candidates aren't using a generic search engine to look for jobs, standing out from the crowd is no easy task. Makes us think of those people who carry big signs or wear funny hats as they stand behind the studio window for The Today Show.
HotGigs still chugs along, but the company tells us it is "very focused on just the Jobs2Web piece."
The Jobs2Web management team has broad experience in the tech sector. CEO Ken Holec served as interim CEO of PeopleClick. Founder Doug Berg may best be remembered for Techies.com, an IT job board that went through $100 million in funding before selling its few remaining assets amidst a flurry of creditor lawsuits. Even though it never was profitable, Techies is fondly remembered by IT professionals of the 1990s. PC Week even named it the #1 IT job site in the world.
To launch this new gig, Berg raised $5.3 million in VC money.

Staffing Exchange
Contract workers job board on steroids. Independent contractors can search and apply for positions posted by direct employers and staffing agencies. Resumes can be searched. Employers seeking contract workers can post their requirements and staffing companies can bid for the orders. Majority of the jobs are on-site with a heavy emphasis on health care, IT and technical positions. -
Channel Vendor
The dilemma: Most staffing companies are small; most of the demand comes from companies that are big and don't want to have to deal with dozens of vendors. The solution: Become a HotGigs subcontractor via the Channel Vendor program and you may get to place your people with the big boys. This is not unique to HotGigs, subcontractor relationships abound; what's a little different here is that besides handling all the back-office work, it will also be actively developing relationships with large firms to become a preferred vendor. There's no charge to get started; HotGigs takes a 5% fee on every placement. -
