Founded by Rob McGovern, who is also the founder and former CEO of CareerBuilder, Jobfox was originally dubbed Market 10, then rebranded as Jobfox in April 2007. Other JobFox insiders will also be familiar to industry insiders, including Rich Ellinger (co-founder of Saba), Barry Lawrence (former PR guru for CareerBuilder), Peggy Padalino (of INPUT, Vocus and CareerBuilder), and Todd Forest (AOL Media Networks). In talent alone, they have become an important part of the job-board landscape.
Jobfox is among the new breed of candidate-centric job sites with intelligent matching technology versus keyword searching used by traditional job boards, one that promises to do more on the candidate-side of the job hunt equation. JobFox provides a mini Web page for people to post about themselves, their skills and talents, and a widget for them to put on a MySpace or Facebook page. It's less about looking for a job than about providing an overview of career and work information. And though it is designed dually as a job hunt/networking and showcase opportunity, JobFox has also made it easier for candidates to go anonymous and to be notified via mobile device when a recruiter has downloaded their resume.
For recruiters, there is instant messaging features for contact with candidates and a stronger technology to match, score, and rank high-potential candidates for recruiters.
Early buzz has been favorable. The well-known online blog VentureBeat likes the direction that JobFox is taking, saying, "Where JobFox really shines is in offering different levels of confidentiality. With Trovix [another new competitor in the candidate-focused job board/social networking space], no one has access to your information until you choose to send it. JobFox prefers to actively market the skills of its users, even if they choose to keep some personal details anonymous…With its focus on the more lucrative section of the job market, executive headhunters and managers looking for qualified workers, JobFox would appear to be aiming for the right section of the market.
In January 2008, it was reported that JobFox received $20 million it its C round of financing. This followed a $10 million B round in May 2006 from Menlo Ventures and New Enterprise Associates, which also invested in the company's first round.
