Total-APS is a division of HRD Press, an established provider of HR training and resource books and videos founded by Dr. Robert Carkhuff in the early 1970s.
In the early years, HRD (Human Relations Development) Press was primarily a publishing group for skill-based materials. In 1985, the company began transforming itself into a commercial publisher with hundreds of products and grew to one of the top publishers of training and development materials and of books from experts in the human resources field.
The company has a website for Web-based training and assessments and the Total Applicant Processing System (Total-APS), which brings many of the company's products, assessments, and offerings together to create a job board where applicants can be guided through a process of finding jobs, undergoing an online interview, and participating in screening tests.Carkhuff is a controversial figure, particularly in the educational arena, where his advocacy of esoteric human potential concepts has influenced policy decisions in the Washington State public schools. His several books include such titles as "Beyond Counseling and Therapy" and "The Possibilities Mind" and have become texts for the self-actualization movement. Nonetheless, he has influenced HR recruiting practices especially in the area of assessing and measuring talent and in candidate selection.
