The marketers among us wondered, CorVirtus? What an odd name. Likely to be misspelled, misunderstood in a phone conversation, mis-typed as a web address. Then we found out the name is Latin for "core values" and liked it immensely. Well, the company is unlikely to be missunderstand in any case, since CorVirtus is a leading company in the screening and assessment arena, a developer of assessments for selecting, developing and retaining high quality talent. They say that they work with industries in which extraordinary customer service is the hallmark, which once more raised the eyebrows of our marketers. But the company backs up the claim by citing Outback Steakhouse, IBM, Blockbuster and Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines as customers. It seems to us that the restaurant, retail and travel/leisure industries are indeed battlegrounds where customer service makes a huge difference, so apparently this is a strategy for CorVirtus, not just marketing-speak. It certainly helped our perception when we read that Outback Chairman of the Board, Chris Sullivan, told Harvard Business Journal CorVirtus founder Thomas DeCotis was the "custodian of our culture."

CorVirtus was co-founded by owners DeCotiis and Marta Erhard. The company was originally called DeCotiis-Erhard, and the name was formally changed to CorVirtus in 2005. Nearly 5,000 locations around the world use the CorVirtus hiring systems and values-based pre-employment assessments to identify top talent.
