After graduating college, the pair moved into business together and in 1990, changed from Panacea Systems to Cluen, a made-up word they found was easier for customers to remember and introduced a DOS-based Cluen Optimizing Recruiting Environment. That product grew into Encore, the current product that also has two companion products Slingshot and Searchlight.
Encore, the core product, is neither an HRIS nor an ATS. It's more of a relational database to manage contacts, allowing users to see the relationship among people, companies, or other data points important to a recruiter. Though it's a client-based product, meaning you buy it, you install it, and host it on your systems, don't let that dissuade you. Encore was designed for the solo recruiter, small agency, or company, thus ease of installation and use have been taken into account.
Cluen, by the way, is self-funding, growing without angel funding or VC investment.Products & Services

Encore Search Management
Recruiting software that stores, tracks and manages data intelligently. Not a full-fledged ATS, Encore is a (giant) step-up from the usual contact management tools, making it possible for users to see relationships among candidates, vendors, clients and specific data that can help improve placements and grow business. The companion software, Searchlight, helps allows recruiters to collect data from prospective candidates, online, inspecting for viruses, and keeping unwanted distractions in a secure off-site facility. Relevant data comes through and can be stored in the relevant Encore file without data entry. A second companion software, Slingshot, allows users to access their database from any remote location via Web browser or mobile devices running Palm OS or Windows PocketPC.
