In the olden days, when a company transferred an employee across the country, HR would call a mover. Today it’s a mobility management company, which is what Cartus calls itself. How better, we suppose, to describe a company that will move your employees, sell or rent their homes for them, help them buy or rent at the other end and, if the transfer is international, can teach them enough about the culture and language so they won't embarrass themselves or the company.

Cartus claims one-half of the Fortune 100 as clients, but also works with smaller companies; two-thirds of the company's clients move fewer than 25 employees per year. It is the largest third-party manager of household goods shipments worldwide and provides services in more than 160 countries, assisting some 130,000 employees in their moves each year. In 2007 the company was recognized globally for its service with the 2007 Relocation Provider of the Year by the Human Resources Outsourcing Association and named to the Global Outsourcing 100 List of Best Outsourcing Providers by the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals. Cartus is part of Realogy Corporation (www.realogy.com), a global provider of real estate and relocation services.
