Acquired in May 2006 by PreVisor for an undisclosed sum, Brainbench was an early leader in online training and certification to test, track, and improve employee hiring and development. The company's catalog lists more than 600 assessment tests with specialized tests for administration, call center, finance, health, IT, and others. For current employees, Brainbench has tests to assess readiness for advancement as well as skills measurement and personality profiling.

In 1999, Brainbench signed an agreement with CareerBuilder.com to offer certification for information technology professionals on its job board. Over the next several years, Brainbench developed a number of alliances and testing programs, including several pre-employment tests to measure an applicant's aptitude for a specific job. It also obtained contracts with U.S. government agencies and developed the industry's largest ISO 9001-2000 library of tests.
