This small company outside Chicago started life in the technical side of Internet development by offering engineering services and e-commerce consulting. Its first commercial product was Jobbex, a turnkey job board used by smaller organizational and commercial sites like HoustonJobs.com. MatchHire, an on-demand Applicant Tracking System (ATS), was introduced in 2006. Both products are so low-cost they will appeal to the smallest company that wants to have a competitive careers site and enough in-bound candidates to have outlived the file cabinet.

Jobbex
Call it a job-board-in-a-box or a hosted careers site -- either way, Jobbex is a basic turnkey job board. All the fundamentals are there and, with just minimal design skills, any small business can have a professional-looking careers site. Commercial operators who charge for postings or resume searching will use the e-commerce edition. Avidweb offers both hosted and an outright purchase of the software for $5,600. -
MatchHire
Online, on-demand ATS provided in versions for staffing firms and individual companies. At a per-user cost of just $39 a month for corporate, in-house recruiting, MatchHire offers all the basic functionality of much higher-priced solutions. It allows a company to have an online job site where candidates can search jobs, post resumes, and apply for positions. MatchHire will assess and rank candidates using standard keyword searching. It will also parse resumes automatically. And, of course, it has automated candidate contact capabilities. Larger companies with more extensive hiring and recruiting will probably want a more fully-featured system, but for employers who need more than a filing cabinet or an Excel spreadsheet, MatchHire is worth a close look.
