Authoria is a human-capital technology company. Its talent-management system offers near soup-to-nuts coverage, including recruitment, compensation, performance, incentives, and employee communications that give individual employees on-demand access to personal and corporate information.

This is no one-size-fits-all solution. Authoria's base product is customized for each client with refinements and enhancements tailored to company needs and company-specific programs and policies.

Authoria prides itself on the speed of implementation, with a goal of having new clients up and running within 12 weeks. Although a relatively young company in the HR field, Authoria has captured a sizable share of the large corporate market with more than 100 clients that have over 20,000 employees. Clients include PepsiAmericas, Aetna, Reuters, Aon, and Roche.

The company has won a handful of awards and recognition for its products and says it has reached profitability in its core business.

In September 2007, it raised $22.5 million in its fifth round of venture financing, bringing the total to more than $100 million, including $58 million raised by Hire.com, a company Authoria acquired in 2005.

The company was sold in September 2008 to Bedford Funding, a private equity firm, for $63.1 million. Bedford also provided an additional $8 million in working capital, which Authoria said will be used to expand the sales force and enhance its customer service and support. Two months later Jim McDevitt was hired as CEO.
