This startup site launched at the end of 2007, joining what seems to be dozens of niche civil engineering sites, including the career site of the venerable American Society of Civil Engineers.
CivilEngeineeringCentral was launched by two experienced recruiters who have a combined 30 years of experience between them in the engineering field. Partner Matt Barcus is also president of his own engineering search firm, Precision Executive Search, Inc. based in Pottstown, Penn., which he founded in 2001.
Co-founder and partner Carol Metzner, is founder and president of The Metzner Group, LLC, specializing in the placement of architects, engineers and planners. The Metzner Group was founded in 1989 and is based in Myersville, Md. Website operations for CivilEngineeringCentral are also headquartered there.
CivilEngineeringCentral is described as the flagship of A/E/P Central, suggesting more niche sites may be coming. That's probably inevitable since the company name is industry shorthand for architects, engineers and planners, all of which have multiple sub-specialties.
Barely six months old when we reviewed it, CivilEngineeringCentral has all the fundamentals. Even though it only had about a third of the jobs that the ASCE site did, it had an active forum, small, but growing traffic and a blog that founders Barcus and Metzner keep up-to-date.
Keep an eye on this site. If the founders can maintain the momentum and build traffic, CivilEngineeringCentral has a real future.
